To Know God (Exodus 33:13)

In Exodus 33:13, Moses is asking God to teach him His ways. Moses’ request is not a request for a theological understanding about God, but rather it is a request from his heart to know God truly.

There is a difference between knowing someone and knowing about them. Almost everyone on earth today will know Donald Trump, but not many of them will know Trump personally. In the same way, people know a lot about the God of the Bible. Perhaps they have heard people talk about Jesus on the television or heard a friend mention, Jesus. Such people know about Jesus, but they do not know him.

Speculative knowledge about God is dangerous. It can very easily lead people away from God. Events such as an unanswered prayer or being let down by someone who professes to be Christians or a Christian leader can easily sway those people who only know about God but do not truly know him. Are you one of them? Have you rejected God before you truly know him.

Do not let flawed people around you shape your opinion about God. Ask God to teach you His ways (Psalm 86:11). Ask God with a sincere heart of a child and He will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; He will counsel you with His loving eye on you (Psalm 32:8) and show you how good he is (Psalm 145:9).

Knowing Jesus personally is the most exciting relationship to have. It is the beginning of a life of fullness with an all-loving and all-powerful God. Swap that speculative experience for a glorious one!
